المستخلص

This study deals with the sociopolitical manifestation of Islamic resurgence in modern Egypt, focusing primarily on the al-Jihad movement - a group of young men, mainly university graduates or students who banded together in secret cell groups throughout the country - from its inception in 1980 to the execution of its leaders following the assassination of President Sadat. The group is one of the three major 20th-century Islamic sociopolitical and religious movements that together have affected the nation dramatically. App.: 'The missing religious precept', manifesto of al-Jihad written by its founder Muhammad Abd al-Salam FARAG - Postscript on the dropping of the government case against al-Jihad (November 1984).
